Alley, alley, pollution free…

Or trying to come close…

Our neighbor to the south, Chicago, is updating their alleys with “green” concrete.  The new paving surface has pores in it that allow rainwater to drip down to the dirt below.   Essentially, the water is filtered and adds to the water table- not to the lake as sewage.  Kinda cool, huh?

The article explaining it is in the New York Times here.  I hope it’s a success- and that Milwaukee starts following in its footsteps.  Milwaukee also has tons of alleys- especially in the little suburbs surrounding the city.  It would be cool if the little stretch behind my house was a benefit to the environment WHILE housing my trash/recycling bins…
